Winemaker Notes

A beautiful vintage has produced a wine with an inky dark purple color that is dense and almost light capturing. The nose combines blackberry and blueberry fruit tones accentuated with oak spice, a touch mocha/chocolate and cracked pepper. Concentrated but nicely balanced on its medium fuller to fuller frame, the tannins are powdery and quite fine giving some focusing grip to the sweet blue and black fruit flavors. This is quite juicy in the mid palate but finishes dry on its persistent finish. Just now starting to open up this concentrated effort should drink beautifully over the next 3-4 years. If you drink it young make sure to let it open up as it will flesh out nicely and gain suppleness.

The 2014 Red Silk Shiraz has a deep garnet color and nose of baked blackberries and black plums with mocha, earth and licorice suggestions. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated in the mouth, it delivers a lot of flavor and gorgeously soft tannins, finishing with a lively lift.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”

Known for opulent red wines with intense power and concentration, McLaren Vale is home to perhaps the most “classic” style of Australian Shiraz. Vinified on its own or in Rhône Blends, these hot-climate wines are deeply colored and high in extract with signature hints of dark chocolate and licorice. Cabernet Sauvignon is also produced in a similar style.

Whites, often made from Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc tend to be opulent and full of tropical, stone and citrus fruit.
