Winemaker Notes
The fine aromas of lavender, spices and vanilla in Miolera express a great deal of finesse with a very unique structure. The refreshing nuances of black cherry and plum then show their own character. With round and fine tannins, strong body and outstanding acidity, this red wine shows its masterly texture. A blend of Barbera and small percentages of Grignolino and Ruché.

The 2021 Mura Mura Miolera Barbera d’Asti, sourced from the rolling hills of Monferrato, reveals a deep ruby hue and opens with aromas of lively red berries and fragrant spices. On the palate, it is firm yet smooth, with layered tart fruit flavors carried by Barbera’s hallmark acidity. This vibrant structure makes it an ideal match for oven-roasted porchetta, where the wine’s freshness and depth balance rich pork and savory herbs. (Tasted: August 3, 2025, San Francisco, CA)
Attracting the most glory, prestige and fame to the Piedmont region, Nebbiolo in all of its expressions—Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero, Ghemme and Gattinara—creates a complex wine, truly unique for its delicate qualities combined with strength and a great potential to improve over time.
But Nebbiolo isn’t all there is to red wine from Piedmont! Barbera is the most planted variety and historically most popular as a dependable, food-friendly, everyday wine.
Beyond these two, a surprising number of red varieties call Piedmont their home. Worth a try include Dolcetto for its bold concentration and aromas of spice cake. Other grapes to investigate include Freisa, Croatina, Brachetto, Grignolino and Pelaverga.
