Winemaker Notes

Bright medium garnet in color. On the nose, rich concentrated red fruits, blackberries, black olives and spice. Generous palate of red and black fruits, blueberries, coffee and liquorice. Round mouthfeel afforded by firm, yet persistent, tannin structure and acid drive.

A blend of some of the best parcels from the Mount Langi Ghiran property, 80% hand-picked, open-fermented with 75% whole berries/25% whole bunches, matured for 18 months in French barriques (25% new), 600 dozen made. If you didn't know otherwise, you might think red fruits have joined the black, or viognier or raspberries (wild or cultivated).

This is a deeply complex and ripe shiraz that has very pure red-plum, raspberry and cherry-like fruit, framed in fragrant spices and plenty of perfume. The palate has sleek, composed and concentrated style with vivid red-berry and plum flavors. Will age for a decade easily.

From a remote, mountainous site deep in western Victoria, Mount Langi's Talus offers power, polish and elegance. High-toned blueberry and black-currant fruit opens, underpinned by mint, sweet spices and florals. Juicy, plump fruit on the midweight palate provides a satiny texture, with a tannic tug. Structured enough to cellar until around 2028 or sip with a plate or protein, it is also approachable enough to be a crowd-pleaser on its own.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”

Nestled into the tip of its southeastern coastline, Victoria is Australia’s smallest mainland state, second most populous and third largest wine producer. Victoria includes the cool regions of Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Geelong, made famous mainly by impressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The more inland Heathcote and Bendigo lead the way for complex and textured, full-bodied reds. Rutherglen’s fortified wines compete among the best on the planet.
