Winemaker Notes
Medium garnet in color with a savory, earthy nose showing dark blackberry fruit, Chambord liqueur, black pepper, star anise and a hint of raw beetroot and tamari. On the palate the fruit is very deep – macerated blackberries, with hints of anise and black pepper, and a hint of celeriac savouriness. Firm acid and fine-grained tannins give the wine an elegant structure and the flavors are long and lingering.
Enjoy with slow cooked lamb shoulder and crunchy rosemary potatoes.
Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
Extending into the sea from just south of the city of Melbourne to form Port Philip Bay in the southern state of Victoria, the Mornington Peninsula grape growing region naturally has a cool, maritime climate. A wide range of soils and topographic variations support a large diversity of wine styles within the small headland.
