Winemaker Notes

Pale lemon in colour; tight, restrained and elegant. On the nose the wine shows bright lemon and grapefruit citrus with a touch of fennel, and salted caramel popcorn. On the palate the wine shows great purity and lovely acid line. A delicious drink now and will reward some cellar time.

This leads with notes of struck match, seashell and toasted nuts; the lemon and melon fruit is at the back. It's mouth filling and creamy with lovely acidity and length, the finish citrusy and saline. With time, the polished oak should better integrate, but for now, fans of richer, Burgundy-styled Chards won't be disappointed. Drink now–2030.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.
