Winemaker Notes

Deep dark ruby with touches of purple on the rim. Explosion of raspberries and cherry with "Macchia" notes like thyme and lavender with touches of white pepper, lilac and paprika. Fresh and structured entrance evolving on a velvety mouthfeel lingering on fresh cut fruit like raspberries, boysenberries with touches of sundried tomatoes and tobacco.

Aromas of cherries and flowers with some orange peel. Graphite, slate and white pepper, too. Medium-bodied with firm and silky tannins that are interlaced with bright acidity. Bright and vivid. Syrah and grenache.

The 2018 Tinata (70% Syrah, 30% Grenache) is super-expressive right out of the gate. Soaring aromatics meld into a core of dark red/blue fruit, with hints of tobacco, dried herbs, licorice and spice that develop later. A wine of understated depth, the Tinata is impressive in this tasting.

Umami aromas of balsamic vinegar, freshly brewed coffee and potting soil make way for an indulgent palate of cherries, berries and dark chocolate with a dusty, chalky palate brightened by lots of acid.

The 2018 Tinata has a similar hue to the 2019 with its magenta/purple color and is a bit more reserved initially on opening, slowly revealing notes of black raspberries, cracked pepper, tobacco leaf, and cedar. The palate is also more subtle and has an elegant, if not a touch dilute, feel.

Made with Syrah and Grenache, the Monteverro 2018 Tinata shows a very exotic side in this vintage that went from a cool spring to hot summer. The bouquet has elements of spice, sweet apple, baked plum, cinnamon cake and tea leaf. There really is a lot of sweet and savory spice dangled here over a core of black fruit. The 2018 vintage stands apart in that regard compared to the other vintages (2019 and 2017) also reviewed at this time.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
