Winemaker Notes
This wine is characterized by the aromas of wild red berries, blueberries and cherries. This intense, clear fruit is underlined by spicy herbal components, delicate roasted aromas and violets. On the tongue it shows an animating freshness and saltiness, firm minerality and depth. This Pinot Noir shows complexity with a mouth-filling, silky tannin structure.

Very silky and creamy, this excellent Ahr pinot noir has wonderful balance, having absorbed its dose of smoky oak. I love the juiciness at the front and on the middle of the medium-bodied palate, then the tannins (fruit and oak) firm up the finish. Needs some time to reach its best harmony.
Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
