Winemaker Notes
Smoke taint can present months or even years after bottling, so this vintage of Cabernet Franc was crafted with a focus on early readiness by allowing it to spend additional time in barrel, a departure from the usual approach for this varietal. While it may not be intended for extended aging, it offers more prominent oak, a plush mouthfeel, and impressive density, making it an exceptional choice to enjoy now with grilled steak or mushrooms.

Bright cherry, blackberry and tobacco aromas dance in the glass of this spicy and lively Cabernet Franc. The palate brings a lovely streak of acidity that elevates the berry and herbal flavors on display before an acid-driven finish that lingers with echoes of cigar box, mint and lemon peel.
Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.
A multifaceted and highly reputable sub-region of Sonoma, Dry Creek Valley is responsible for a wide range of wine styles—both red and white. One of the smallest AVAs in California, Dry Creek Valley has a winning combination of ideal geography and climate. Fertile, well-drained soils create concentrated varietal character while long, warm days, bookended by cool nights, allow grapes to reach full phenolic ripeness and balance. The warm and welcoming appellation is home to a number of family-owned vineyards and wineries that place a strong emphasis on sustainable farming practices.
Zinfandel reigns supreme here and still produces in a great number of very old vineyards—often 100 years old or older. These old vines create a powerful, voluptuous and sultry wine unlike those of any other region. Sauvignon Blanc, the valley’s signature white grape, also performs exceptionally well. Many other varieties grow comfortably here, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Syrah. Petite Sirah is often found in blends with Zinfandel.
