Winemaker Notes

Fresh and vibrant in its youth, 2010 Mayacamas Cabernet surely has a long life ahead. Red raspberry tart, bing cherry, black olive, thyme make for a substantially complex palate. The firm, structured tannins make for a classic profile, and suggest a particularly ageable wine.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is a potent, explosive wine. It offers an exotic mix of ripe dark fruit, textural richness and structure, all signatures of a cold year marked by sudden heat at the end of the growing season. Blackberry, gravel, licorice, menthol and incense add to the wine's somber, deep personality. At 14 years of age, the 2010 is a youngster.

This library wine offers a pretty bottle bouquet, with floral, spice and cedar notes that are amazing to linger over. A bit tight in tannins, with mineral, chalk and graphite notes coming out in the finish.

A library release available from the winery, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon features explosive cherries up front accented by sage shadings. It's medium-bodied, weighing in at a labeled 13.25% alcohol, built around a core of bright acidity and framed by softly dusty tannins on the black tea-like finish.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
