Winemaker Notes

Garnet red in color, this wine is delicate and pleasant on the nose, offering notes of raspberry and violet. With age, it develops secondary aromas similar to those of Barolo. A complete and temptingly harmonious wine.

Great with all courses of a meal, this wine offers its best expression when served with rich and tasty dishes, from fresh pasta with meat and vegetable sauces, to grilled or roast red meat dishes. Also excellent with soft and delicate blue cheeses.

Aromas of cherries, cedar and strawberries with some subtle cream follow through to a medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh and flavorful finish. Very pretty.

The 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo is a clear, direct and immediate wine. It offers those characteristic varietal tones of dried berry fruit, rose hip and licorice with a cheerful and informal approach. This bouquet is mild in terms of intensity, but all the main components are there. There is a very subtle note of sweetness or softness in the mouth that makes this wine a good choice to drink within the next two or three years. With 40,000 bottles made, this wine should be relatively easy to source.

A bright cherry note beams through this red, with flashes of earth, wild herb and tobacco adding interest. Firms up yet stays balanced overall, with a lingering finish.

Attracting the most glory, prestige and fame to the Piedmont region, Nebbiolo in all of its expressions—Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero, Ghemme and Gattinara—creates a complex wine, truly unique for its delicate qualities combined with strength and a great potential to improve over time.

But Nebbiolo isn’t all there is to red wine from Piedmont! Barbera is the most planted variety and historically most popular as a dependable, food-friendly, everyday wine.

Beyond these two, a surprising number of red varieties call Piedmont their home. Worth a try include Dolcetto for its bold concentration and aromas of spice cake. Other grapes to investigate include Freisa, Croatina, Brachetto, Grignolino and Pelaverga.
