Winemaker Notes

Masseto 2013 is the result of an overall late and fresh climate during the harvesting period. These are particularly favorable conditions for Merlot, which was able to ripen slowly and completely in sunny weather, without excessive heat, which enhanced a full expression of the aromatic qualities and perfect ripening of the polyphenolic content. Intense ruby in color, the nose immediately reveals fully ripe fruitiness endowed with great freshness and complexity, underlined by delicate notes of vanilla and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is substantial and rich, with great density, and a rare tannic quality of silkiness and smoothness. Black fruit aromas are accompanied by a strong note of freshness and a long, elegant finish, which is prolonged with a delicate hint of cocoa.

Aromas of blueberry, violet, and rose that turn to black truffle. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and very long. So gorgeous and persistent. It goes on for minutes.

Tasted from barrel, the 2013 Masseto is shaping up to be a super star. This edition of the wine is already more muscular and tight compared to the warm vintage expression in 2011 and 2012. This Masseto instead is linear and balanced with pretty fruit tones that are enhanced by enduring sensations of baking spice, dark chocolate and tobacco. The bouquet delivers the classic aromas you should expect of a Merlot of this high standard. The mouthfeel also shows a tight acidic vein that bodes well for the future evolution of this stunning wine. The tannins are youthful and unyielding but they also show firm structure and balance that serves to support the wine's rich extract and flavors. Barrel Sample: 95-97

Offers an inviting nose of black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, toast and tobacco, while sweet fruit and mineral flavors abound. Focused yet generous, with beautiful balance and a long, spicetinged aftertaste. Needs aeration to come together. Decant if you must drink now, but better to wait. Merlot. Best from 2019 through 2030.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
