Winemaker Notes

The lieu dit of "Les Coères" is one of the largest of the Montagny appellation in terms of surface area. The parcel vinified by Alix is situated in the top of the parcel, a placement favorable to minerality. The vines, whose average age is 25 years, are farmed organically.

A distinctly cool array of green apple and grapefruit aromas precedes the plump yet well-detailed flavors that are supported by a moderately firm and citrus-tinged acid spine on the subtly mineral-inflected finale. This is also really quite good and worthy of your interest.

Cote Chalonnaise, Burgundy

One of the top appellations for white Burgundy from the Cote Chalonnaise, Montagny is comprised of large number of Premiers Crus vineyards. Its wines (made of Chardonnay) tend to have a finesse and body not found elsewhere in the Cote Chalonnaise.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.
