Distiller Notes

Comparable to most firms' VSOPs, this Petite Champagne Cognac is aged four years in new oak casks and appreciated for its powerful and fruity character. Despite its youth, its finesse - due to the early-maturing Petite Champagne, the "deuxieme cru" of Cognac - is evident and pleasurable in this long and balanced Cognac. Brillet Cognac Selection is the perfect introduction to Brillet Cognac and to the Brillet Cognac style. The spirit is perfectly balanced, absolutely pure and totally delicious. Served on the rocks or with water, this lovely spirit is far better than simple blended scotch. It is also a splendid mixer for Cognac cocktails (mixed with Champagne and bitters)or for Cognac Alexander (with cream and nutmeg).

Maison Brillet, undefined
One of the most respected Houses in Cognac is Maison Brillet. Maison Brillet is family- owned and led today by tenth generation President Jean-Louis Brillet. Founded in 1850, the House is known for its hand-crafted, single vineyard, single alembic Cognacs. Using grapes only from vineyards in the regions two top areas, Grande and Petite Champagne, every Cognac is aged in oak barrels (3-10 years for Petite Champagne, 10-100 years for Grande) and bottled without blending. This is very unusual in Cognac as most houses blend wines from several areas. This allows the House to produce extraordinary liqueurs such as the famous and unique pear liqueur, Belle de Brillet, a blend of Poire Williams and Brillet Cognac.

Widely regarded as the finest and most complex grape-based spirit in the world, Cognac follows rigorously strict production guidelines. It is made exclusively of wine—most commonly from Ugni Blanc—from the Charente and Charente-Maritime regions surrounding the town of Cognac in southwestern France. After a second distillation in antique copper pot stills (called charentais), the spirit is transferred to French oak barrels and aged a minimum of two years (VS). Cognac is classified by both age and region (Cru). The Grande Champagne Cru and Petite Champagne Cru, both having shallow limestone soils, are the most respected.
