Winemaker Notes

The Louis Martini Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon was handcrafted from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the legendary Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma Valley. This monumental red wine delivers complex aromas of cherry, spice and earth. On the palate, the wine offers classic flavors of cassis and anise framed by notes of leather, earth and spice. Maturation in 100% French oak imparted nuanced toast and caramel notes.

Rich, thick and velvety, this has a wealth of heightened acidity to buoy the more intense aspects. The wine hails from the mighty vineyard overlooking Sonoma Valley, which will, going forward, be within the new Moon Mountain AVA. Coconut macaroon and dark chocolate mark it from start to full-bodied finish. Cellar Selection.

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
