This wine pairs perfectly with roasts, game, meats in sauce and fine cheeses.

Wine Enthusiast
From one of the larger of the great grands crus of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux, this is a dark, structured wine. It has power and juicy acidity that drive its black plum and berry fruit flavors. A dry core of tannins promises many years of maturing.

The softness and beauty to this wine are very attractive with walnut and berry character. Hints of lemons. Medium-to full-bodied, very delicious and savory.

Wine Spectator
Aromatic, with a rose aroma giving way to ripe, macerated cherry and berry fruit, framed by sweet oak nuances. A tight, sinewy red, firm and chewy, yet very long on the finish.

The 2014 Echezeaux Grand Cru has a tightly-wound, tart red cherry bouquet that needs to forage more complexity during élevage. It seems a little...lackadaisical at the moment. The palate is quite masculine with slightly dry tannin, firm in the mouth with good density, yet it needs to show more precision and focus on the finish. Not bad, but perhaps surpassed by some of Jadot's Vosne Premier crus this year.

Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
Claiming the two famous Grand Crus, Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux, the identity of this village, Flagey-Echezeaux, rides predominantly on the glory of those two crus. All of the village or Premier Cru status vineyards in Flagey-Echezeaux market themselves under the name of their neighbor, Vosne-Romanée.
Echezeaux Pinot noir tends be light, bright and full of finesse, whereas those of Grands Echezeaux typically have more heft and complexity.
