Winemaker Notes

Lively and fragrant, amongst chamomile, kaffir lime leaf, Thai basil and ganagal, there is a bursting array of finger limes, lemon sherbet and grapefruit zest. Subtleties of ocean spray, samphire and petrichor. The palate is vibrant and racy, outlined again by a solid core of the citrus spectrum. Energy is revealed through a laced natural acid corridor, almost possessing a quartz-like tactile feel. The shape and frame is fine, elegant and long. Nuances of saltbush and coriander seed through the mid-palate generate unassuming complexity.

Inviting aromas of fleshy peaches, apricots, white tea and subtle spice. Medium-bodied with silky texture. Subtle and nuanced with the nose continuing and expanding on the palate before gently trailing off at the finish. Minerals come out at the end

The 2022 Art Series Riesling leads with fleshy lime and green apple skins. There is always a presence of galangal/coriander/loquat, and that remains consistent this vintage. Tight and focused despite the warmer vintage, judicious picking has produced a wine that is interestingly lean, as well as fleshy. That's a combination of the vintage, the region and the expression of the variety here in Margaret River. The phenolics are savory and curve through the fruit through the finish, keeping the wine tight and focused. Healthy canopies in the vineyard help to shade the fruit, retain natural acidity and promote the purity of fruit flavors in the finished wine. This is one of the very few Riesling vineyards in Margaret River, and it's consistently expressive.

Fruity crowd-pleasing aromas of pink grapefruit juice, lemon furniture polish and lime blossom arrive first on this southern Margaret River Riesling. There’s some texture to the palate and heaps of lemony, mouthpuckering acidity. Still an infant, the best years are ahead of this.

Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.

Home to some of Australia’s most elegant and long-lived red and white wines, Margaret River is situated in the farthest reaches of Western Australia. Relatively warm and dry, the region is cooled by breezes from the Indian Ocean. Margaret River takes some inspiration from Bordeaux, producing top-quality Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux Blends with firm structure, mouthwatering acidity, balanced alcohol and notes of herbs and spice. For white wines, refreshing blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as complex, age-worthy Chardonnays are regional specialties.
