Winemaker Notes

The wine has a deep garnet color. Intense varietal Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, plum and licorice lift from the glass to greet the nose and is underpinned by the beautifully integrated French oak aromas. The palate is intense, linear and elegant. Blackcurrant and licorice flavors linger in the mouth to produce an incredibly long finish. The fine backbone of acidity displayed by this wine and the ultra fine tannins suggest a vintage of Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon with great aging potential.

Critical Acclaim

JH 94
Australian Wine Companion

A super-elegant and refined wine, with few of the flourishes that many of its regional counterparts exhibit; the fragrant, dark fruits of the bouquet are precisely replayed on the palate with its somber flavors and tannins.

ST 93
International Wine Cellar

RP 91
The Wine Advocate

The deep garnet-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Art Series is ripe and expressive on the mature nose, with meaty, marmite, earth, creme de cassis and plum preserves notes. Possessing a medium body, this wine is crisp, fresh and grainy, with good concentration and great length.

WS 90
Wine Spectator

Polished, ripe and open-textured, offering a generous mouthful of dark chocolate-scented blackberry and cherry flavors, standing upright and refined as the finish lingers.

Leeuwin Estate
Leeuwin Estate, one of the founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia was established in 1973 with its mission statement to: "Produce wines that rank with the best in the world through the pursuit of excellence".

In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, first identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to owners, Denis and Tricia Horgan in the establishment of Leeuwin Estate. The first vines were planted by hand over a five year period from 1973.

Featuring state-of-the art facilities, the winery building was opened in 1978, celebrating with a trial vintage. Leeuwin enjoyed its first commercial vintage in 1979, and was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay in an international blind tasting.

Maintaining a team of highly skilled and dedicated winemakers, Leeuwin Estate is now under the direction of two generations of the founding family.

Surrounded by redwood forests and blanketed in atmospheric fog, the Anderson Valley is one of California’s most picturesque appellations. Centered on the Navarro River, the region is kept cool by moist air flowing in from the Pacific Ocean. High and low temperatures can vary as much as 40 or 50 degrees within a single day, allowing for slow and gentle ripening of grapes which will in turn create elegantly balanced wines.

The Anderson Valley is best known for Pinot Noir made in a range of styles from delicate and floral to powerful and concentrated. Chardonnay also shines here, and both varieties are often utilized for the production of some of California’s best traditional method sparkling wines. The region also draws inspiration from Alsace and produces excellent Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris.
