A seductively floral, fruity and vibrant nose with a good lift of freshness and fruit. Crushed stones, blueberries, graphite, blue flowers and berries and a touch of white pepper. A combination of fruit and layers on the palate with fresh, mealy tannins that turn pretty chalky in the finish.

A new addition to this range is the 2022 Cuvée Alexandre Cabernet Franc, which features 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot. It opens with a black-fruited and herbal nose, accented by a hint of new leather and deftly integrated creamy oak. Its texture embodies the quintessential Lapostolle style with velvety, slow-moving, seamless richness, concluding in a long, layered finish highlighted by perfumed lift and fine-grained tannins.

The 2022 Cabernet Franc Cuvée Alexandre, sourced from Apalta, displays a purple hue. Aromas of ash, sour cherry, cassis and a faint hint of green bell pepper emanate from the glass. Indulgent and grippy, the fairly concentrated palate leads to a richly extracted mouthfeel. This is a savory, ripe red.

Elegant and fresh, opening with floral, raspberry and red currant notes, while a graphite underpinning lends a pleasant mineral tinge to the finish around fine tannins and hints of chili-laced chocolate.

Lapostolle Winery Video

Lapostolle was founded in 1994 by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet upon their discovery of a unique clos in the Apalta Valley sheltering 100-year-old pre-phylloxera vines. They quickly realized its potential for producing world-class wines and embarked on their family’s next chapter in the New World. Alexandra brought generations of French winemaking tradition and expertise to the rugged landscape of the Colchagua Valley.

Today, Charles de Bournet, the seventh generation, leads the winery in its newest chapter of innovation, punctuated by the official recognition of the Apalta DO in 2018. Together with Andrea León, Technical Director & Winemaker, Lapostolle continue to craft wines that honor the winery’s credo: French in essence, Chilean by birth.

Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.

Well-regarded for intense and exceptionally high quality red wines, the Colchagua Valley is situated in the southern part of Chile’s Rapel Valley, with many of the best vineyards lying in the foothills of the Coastal Range.

Heavy French investment and cutting-edge technology in both the vineyard and the winery has been a boon to the local viticultural industry, which already laid claim to ancient vines and a textbook Mediterranean climate.

The warm, dry growing season in the Colchagua Valley favors robust reds made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Malbec and Syrah—in fact, some of Chile’s very best are made here. A small amount of good white wine is produced from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
