Winemaker Notes
For those who like pepper in their Syrah, the 2016 Lagier Meredith Syrah doesn't disappoint. In addition to the usual harmony of spice, flowers and fruit, this vintage has a notable freshness. The Mount Veeder vineyard continues to demonstrate that Syrah grown in just the right place makes a wonderfully complex wine.

Wine Spectator
Power meets finesse, with a core of dense complexity wrapped in dynamic blackberry, smoky meat, crushed stone and pepper flavors that build toward big but refined tannins.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The very deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Syrah Mt. Veeder has a lifted nose of red and black cherries, black raspberries and rose hip tea with hints of wild blueberries, bouquet garni and olives. The palate is medium-bodied, very refreshing, spicy and elegant with nice rounded tannins and a long finish.

Wine
The flavor of the wine is reminiscent of the Northern Rhône in its red berry and white pepper aromas, but it has more extract and body. It has intense flavor and deep color but, unlike some other red wines, where big color usually means big tannin, Lagier Meredith Syrah is not harshly tannic so it drinks well when it is young, but it is also expected to age well.
