Winemaker Notes
Styled after its cousins from the Rhone Valley, Mother of Invention is theirr bistro white blend. An 80/20 split of Roussanne and Marsanne farmed organically on Bonfiglio Vineyard along the banks of the Russian River, Mother of Invention is fermented in neutral French oak barrels, sur-lie aged for 6 months, and undergoes malolactic fermentation naturally before going to bottle. Lean yet still medium bodied, this wine will surely be a favorite at your table just as it is at ours.
Full-bodied and flavorful, white Rhône blends originate from France’s Rhône Valley. Today these blends are also becoming popular in other regions. Typically some combination of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier form the basis of a white Rhône blend with varying degrees of flexibility depending on the exact appellation. Somm Secret—In the Northern Rhône, blends of Marsanne and Roussanne are common but the south retains more variety. Marsanne, Roussanne as well as Bourboulenc, Clairette, Picpoul and Ugni Blanc are typical.
A large and diverse appellation within California’s North Coast AVA, Mendocino is home to several smaller sub-regions—most notably the Anderson Valley. This scenic region, with rolling hills covered in redwood forests as well as vineyards, is one of the world’s top producers of certified organically-grown grapes.
