Originally only offered to close friends and family, Reserva de la Familia Extra Anejo is made from only the hearts, or pinas, of 8-10 year old agave plants. The agave cooks at distillery La Rojena for 48 hours total - 36 hours through direct vapor and then 12 more hours with just its own heat. Our fermentation is a 100% natural process, in which the raising of the alcohol content is closely monitored. When ready, the tequila is double distilled in a copper pot, preserving all of the characteristics and elements obtained in the fermentation, creating a product with an outstanding profile and cleanliness
The tequila is a dark amber hue. Aromas of oak, almonds, apple, olives and cinnamon. Flavors of rich oak, toasted almonds, vanilla and cinnamon. The finish is long and silky.
Each bottle is numbered, dated, and sealed in wax. All by hand.
Enjoy lightly chilled in a tequila flute for celebration, accompanying food or after a meal.

Because of their great complexity, Anejo Tequilas are most often used as a substitute for Brandy or Whiskey in cocktails like the Manhattan or Old Fashioned. Anejo Tequilas must be aged in oak barrels for between one and three years, while Extra Anejo refers to any Tequila aged longer than three years. The prolonged contact with the oak barrel allows the wood to make a much stronger impression on the Tequila by adding toffee, caramel and vanilla to the sweet, spicy agave flavor profile.
