The 2009 Amigne de Vétroz (Two Bees) is from another warm vintage (like 2018) and opens with a deep and mineral as well as ripe and concentrated, spicy bouquet with discreet oak aromas, even though the wine was entirely vinified in stainless steel. On the palate, this is a rich and sweet, slightly bitter-finishing Amigne with remarkable intensity. The sweetness is less balanced here than in the salty 2018, but this might be a result of the 10 years of age. This is an excellent wine that I recommend cellaring for another 5 to 10 years. In 2018, the polyphenols were better oxidized, and the winemaking team used no sulfur at this (must) stage. Tasted in Balavaud in January 2020. Rating : 91+
There are hundreds of white grape varieties grown throughout the world. Some are indigenous specialties capable of producing excellent single varietal wines. Each has its own distinct viticultural characteristics, as well as aroma and flavor profiles.
Enhancing quality and diversity of wine grapes in recent years after the Swiss government lifted import controls on wine, Switzerland is beginning to gain some ground aside its European neighbors. While its main variety is the white Chasselas, more than half of Switzerland’s wine production is red. The country has 15,000 ha of vineyards mainly in the cantons of Geneva, Neuchâtel, Ticino, Valais and Vaud.
