Ripe red and yellow apples, juicy apricot and sunny Mirabelles on the nose are all framed by lemon freshness while something floral, almost like jasmine hovers. This same fruit-driven concentration appears on the dry but very textured palate. There almost is something like apple crispness that is mellow at the same time. The lemony brightness keeps everything precise. The finish is dry and lasting and packs a wonderful, almost salty punch. Drink now–2030.

Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
