Winemaker Notes

The nose dominates with notes of citrus, white stone fruitsand perfumed floral blossom. This continues through onthe pallet which predominates with luscious but crisp whitestone fruit flavours, an underlying lees driven texturalbackbone and a fine grained mineral concentration. A lovelyclean acidity gives the wine lift, balance and poise.

Wine & Spirits
There’s intriguing fruit complexity in this sauvignon, opening from a tight, firm juiciness in layers of red apple, pear, green melon and tangerine. A floral note adds a touch of bitterness, taking this moderate white in the direction of a whole roasted sea bass stuffed with rosemary.

Jackson Estate, New Zealand
Jackson Estate Winery Image
Jackson Estate embodies the very best of Marlborough, New Zealand, the essence of fine wine. Jackson Estate is a special place, a testament to the vision and determination of the Stichbury and Jackson families who have farmed the land on the Wairau River plains at Jacksons Road for more than 160 years. The introduction of Wellington businessman John Benton during 2013 as the major shareholder in Jackson Estate ensures the iconic winemaker remains securely in N.Z. ownership.

Since planting our pioneering vineyards, over three decades ago – time, tide and fortune have been kind to Jackson Estate and the unparalleled affinity between Marlborough and fine wine has spectacularly been realised.

The acclaim Jackson Estate generates is based on the merit of its soils, mature, cool climate vineyards and wine making style. High sunshine hours maximise fruit concentration; a long, dry growing season enables aroma accumulation and even ripening. Cool nights retain high acidity in the grapes, allowing the wines to age well.

Jackson Estate believes in a few very simple principles – the best modern winemaking techniques; a respect for vineyard sites; and unerring pursuit of varietal integrity; and through this a strong, identifiable and much admired style.

An icon and leading region of New Zealand's distinctive style of Sauvignon blanc, Marlborough has a unique terroir, making it ideal for high quality grape production (of many varieties). Despite some common generalizations, which could be fairly justified given that Marlborough is responsible for 90% of New Zealand's Sauvignon blanc production, the wines from this region are actually anything but homogenous. At the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, the vineyards of Marlborough benefit from well-draining, stony soils, a dry, sunny climate and wide temperature fluctuations between day and night, a phenomenon that supports a perfect balance between berry ripeness and acidity.

The region’s king variety, Sauvignon blanc, is beloved for its pungent, aromatic character with notes of exotic tropical fruit, freshly cut grass and green bell pepper along with a refreshing streak of stony minerality. These wines are made in a wide range of styles, and winemakers take advantage of various clones, vineyard sites, fermentation styles, lees-stirring and aging regimens to differentiate their bottlings, one from one another.

Also produced successfully here are fruit-forward Pinot noirs (especially where soils are clay-rich), elegant Riesling, Pinot gris and Gewürztraminer.
