Winemaker Notes

100% Sangiovese, from a single vineyard whose vines range from 55 to 70 years old. The vineyard, situated at 1,300 feet, produces a tiny yield of 1.5 tons per acre. Before release the wine is aged for eleven months in French oak barriques and tonneaux (both new and second year) succeeded by an additional 24 months in bottle. Gratius is the color of deep crimson and has a bouquet that suggests complex notes of ripe black cherries, blackberry jam, chocolate, and tobacco all of which and more is delivered on the palate. It shows richness, complexity and exquisite balance. Gratius is a pennant winner for sure!

The Il Molino di Grace 2011 Gratius (95% Sangiovese with 5% Colorino and Canaiolo) has taken a considerable jump forward in quality compared to past vintages. This is a steady and true expression of Tuscany with tonic fruit flavors of cherry and blackberry followed by moist earth and spice. In the mouth, the wine shows richness and a supple character.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
