COMMENTARY: The 2017 Horse & Plow Rancho Rocoso Vineyard Cabernet Franc offers excellent concentration and smoothness on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine excels with aromas and flavors of black fruit and licorice. Serve it with Cantonese roast duck over jasmine rice. (Tasted: October 3, 2021, San Francisco, CA)
Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.
With boundaries overlapping the Sonoma Coast AVA and Sonoma Mountain AVA, Bennett Valley benefits from the cooling effects of the nearby Pacific Ocean just like its neighbors. Top grapes planted include Barbera, Pinot noir and Chardonnay, as well as Bordeaux and Rhone varieties.
