Winemaker Notes

This refreshing Sauvignon Blanc has a pale to light straw color. The aromas expressed are mainly citrus with lemon-line with honeysuckle notes. The palate is juicy with tropical mango and papaya flavors which are backed by ample acidity thanks to the cool climates of Hopland in Mendocino county. The finish is a melange of citrus including key line, lemon tart and orange blossom with lip smacking acidity that begs for oysters on the half shell.

Heron focuses on California's most respected appellations to craft balanced, fresh wines that are both expressive and easy to enjoy. Inspired by the strength and determination of its namesake bird, the brand was founded by Laely Heron, one of the pioneers of female-owned and produced wine brands in California.

Heron wines are never made to a formula. Each vintage begins with a thoughtful search for the best grapes across California's top growing regions, resulting in wines that consistently highlight finesse, freshness, and balance. Year after year, Heron has earned "Best Buy" recognition from Wine Enthusiast, a testament to its outstanding quality and value—and its ability to stand out alongside much larger wine brands.

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.

This scenic region, with rolling hills covered in redwood forests as well as vineyards, is one of the world’s top producers of certified organically-grown grapes. Due to wide geographical and climatic variation, a vast array of wine styles can be found here.
