The 2016 G by Alex Guarachi checks in as 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, and the rest Merlot that spent two years in barrel. It offers loads of jammy blackberries, blueberries, scorched earth, and hints of ground pepper (no doubt from the Syrah) to go with a plump, sexy, rounded style on the palate. Drink this pleasure-bent effort any time over the coming decade.

The 2016 Red Blend G by Alex Guarachi is blended of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-black in color, it features crème de cassis, plum preserves and earth on the nose with loads of cedar and nuances of tilled soil and herbs. Full-bodied and firm with rounded tannins, the palate is packed with fruit preserves, finishing spicy.
One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.
Just northeast of Napa city, Atlas Peak boasts some of Napa Valley’s highest elevation vineyards. Here the intense sunlight coupled with cool, nighttime temperatures produce grapes that are perfectly ripe, balanced and concentrated. The appellation is rich in volcanic soils and excels in the production of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
