    Winemaker Notes

Gabbiano Pinot Grigio is created with fully ripened grapes and vinified in the Friuli method of cold fermentation in stainless steel refrigerated tanks in order to preserve the delicate fruit nuances so critical to high quality Pinot Grigio. Fruit for Gabbiano Pinot Grigio is sourced from Italys premier white wine region called Tre Venezie. This area is bordered by the Julian Alps and Dolomite mountain range on the north and on the south by the Adriatic Sea. The geography, soil, and maritime influence combine to create some of the most ideal microclimates for the Pinot Grigio grape. The Introductory Vintage The 2000 vintage marked the fourth consecutive excellent vintage in the Tre Venezie. A warm growing season from April through September provided perfect ripening conditions for the Pinot Grigio grape. The cool afternoon elements contributed by the mountains and the Adriatic Sea created the ideal acid that is essential for this varietal.
