Winemaker Notes
Riesling wines from the Frankland River region are renowned for their intense varietal flavours and crisp fresh acidity. Frankland Estate has produced Riesling from the Isolation Ridge Vineyards since 1991. These wines have won widespread critical acclaim and been consistently ranked among the best in Australia.
We believe Riesling produces the world's greatest white wines and have made a major commitment to the variety. This is reflected in our sponsorship of the Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting, a bi-annual comparative tasting of the world's greatest dry Rieslings, and the Frankland Estate Riesling Scholarship, an annual award to a member of the hospitality or wine industry who has contributed to greater appreciation and enjoyment of Riesling wines.
Professional Ratings
Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
Quite remote and unequalled in beauty, the wine regions of Westerm Australia promise endless physical and climatic diversity. From the coolest, seaside vineyards to the hottest inland zones, Western Australia is the source of some of the country’s most sought after wines.
