Winemaker Notes

Deep purple. Violet flashes of abundant, colored and dense tears. High aromatic intensity with notes of black fruits and ripe sloes, a very marked mineral profile that, together with the notes from the barrel such as vanilla, spices and tobacco, give this wine great character. The Tempranillo variety is very marked and well integrated with the barrel. The attack is fatty and intense with a sweet aftertaste, showing great finesse, acidity balanced with alcohol, predominating the typical freshness of Valpiedras. Long and mineral finish, with hints of fine woods and great freshness

Pair with pots of vegetables and legumes, chicken soups. Regarding meats, it pairs best with white meats, turkey, suckling lamb and pork. Perfect accompaniment to rice with rabbit and stewed pularda.

This delightful wine is garnet-colored in the glass with aromas of ripe red cherry, red plum and saddle leather with flavors of ripe red and black fruits, dried savory herbs, cedar shavings and tobacco leaf. The tannins are silky, the mouthfeel is rounded and the finish is persistent.

This has aromas of plums, thyme, fresh figs, walnuts and chili chocolate. Medium-bodied and nicely structured on the palate, with firm and chalky tannins and a backbone of bright acidity.

The 2019 Cantos de Valpiedra is a Tempranillo sourced from a single vineyard on the banks of the Ebro River, in the Cenicero area of Rioja Alta. Aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels, this garnet wine unfolds aromas of sour cherry and strawberry, complemented by hints of herbs and tomato leaf over a vanilla layer. On the palate, it is dry and juicy, with fine, reactive tannins adding a rich texture to a bold mouthfeel.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
