Winemaker Notes

Reserva Real was created after his majesty King Don Juan Carlos visited the Torres winery in 1995, and was treated to one of the most exclusive and limited production wines in Spain. It is created from the best Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes from the small vineyard Agulladolç, which is also home to a beautiful 11th century Romanesque hermitage. After 18 months in new French oak barrels, and thanks to the great quality of the tannins in this wine.

Dense, dark cherry red with bright highlights. Aromatically seductive and delicate, with fruit notes (wild strawberries) and a characteristic terroir-imparted mineral nuance (graphite). Subtle and elegant on the palate, with a silky mouthfeel that leaves a trace of sweet spices (vanilla) and an exquisite note reminiscent of candied orange rind. A well-aged wine that has matured magnificently in the bottle.

This has such fresh and attractively ripe blueberry and dark-plum aromas with hints of purple cherries, too. Very fresh on the nose. The palate is silky, concentrated and very plush with such suave and fine tannins, carrying fresh blackberry, plum and chocolate flavors long. Impressive.

There are notes of graphite and tar on the nose of the luxury cuvée 2015 Reserva Real, and it also developes creamy notes of cocoa, roasted coffee beans and ripe berries with some Mediterranean herbs thrown into the mix. This has the luxurious and voluptuous character many of these prestige reds seem to portray, with the sleek and polished Torres style. The price? That's another story... It's a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from Penedès that matured in new barriques for 18 months.

Generous and expressive, this red delivers black cherry, currant, toast, cedar and loamy earth flavors, backed by well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. Shows breadth and depth. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

A superior source of white grapes for the production of Spain’s prized sparkling wine, Cava, the Penedes region is part of Catalunya and sits just south of Barcelona. Medio Penedès is the most productive source of the Cava grapes, Macabeo, Xarel-lo, and Parellada. Penedes also grows Garnacha and Tempranillo (here called Ull de Llebre in Catalan), for high quality reds and rosès.
