Winemaker Notes

Black cherry aromas, underscored by sweet mandarin orange, greet the nose as warm, clove-laced vanilla wafts gently among subtle hints of anise and caramel. The wine opens on the palate with more hints of sweet black cherry, which flows seamlessly into a supple silkiness. Please note that this wine is sealed with a twist cap closure. It's so versatile with food - fish, fowl, beef, and pasta...the perfect house red! Also, try this with Thai or Chinese pepper sauce, grilled scallops, thin crust pizza margherita, pasta with red sauce, and zesty BBQ.

"This refreshingly delicate wine has a lean rosy scent over bright red cherry fruit, its red plum flavor garnished with the flavors of fine herbs, and the wine has a delightful acidity to lift its mildly herbal finish." 89 Points

Erath Vineyards, Oregon
Erath Vineyards Leland Vineyard Winery Image

As one of Oregon's wine pioneers, Erath winery's founder, Dick Erath, was driven by the belief that the future of Pinot Noir was in Oregon. Today, Erath's wines are an expression of the land that the winery has cultivated for more than 40 years, longer than any other winery in the Dundee Hill of Oregon. Winemaker, Gary Horner, who shares Dick Erath's background in science and a reverence for Oregon's unique terroir, strives to reveal classic Oregon Pinot: light, delicate and fruit-forward. Horner takes pride in making a range of Pinot Noir styles, from the hugely-popular Oregon blend to the highly-acclaimed, limited-edition, single-vineyard selections. His goal is to make the best Pinot Noir the region has to offer - it is time-honored, authentic and uniquely Oregon.

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
