Winemaker Notes

A very complex Riesling with noble elegance, incredibly concentrated and rich flavor, and deep minerality. Powerful and elegant at the same time.

The restrained beauty of the peachiness in the nose is hard to describe, but easy to be overwhelmed by! On the compact palate this has staggering concentration yet still manages to be very light on its feet. The finish is blade-runner sharp, but the blade also flashes in the sun. Breathtaking drive and energy for the very warm and dry vintage. Then comes the remarkable wet-stone minerality and you can’t wait for the next sip.

A complex white, with intensity and vibrancy to the wet slate, pear, lychee and white peach flavors. Offering intriguing lilac and dried herb highlights, this version's tangy acidity cuts through the palate, which shows some broadness hemmed in by a tightly wound mineral framework. With a few years in the cellar, this will unfurl and improve with time. Best from 2026 through 2040.

Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.

Steep and terraced slopes of a sandstone, porphyry, and slate produce some of Germany’s best Rieslings, which are full of pronounced aromas, spice and mineral.
