Winemaker Notes

Le Pied de la Butte comes from a clay-limestone soil located at the bottom of the slope. It is vinified and aged in stainless steel tanks to be enjoyed upon release in the Spring following harvest. The wine offers generous, savory black cherry and cranberry fruit with a soft texture.

Jacky Blot of La Taille aux Loups purchased this property in 2002, a south-facing slope where the franc vines are now 30 to 40 years old. He produces this wine from vines at the base of the hill, fermenting it in stainless steel and bottling it without fining or filtering. It’s pure Bourgueil deliciousness, from the rustic scent of roses growing out of compost to the pretty blue fruit, dark cherry and mushroom flavors. Black pepper spice keeps it bright. Fresh glou.

Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.
