Ripe red and black fruits, peppery herbs, incense, and some floral notes all emerge from the 2022 Ventoux Domaine, a medium-bodied, supple, perfumed 2022 that has fine tannins and a terrific sense of elegance.

The big black fruit has excellent youthful freshness and the tannins are enough to give this full-bodied Rhone red a very clear line, but are not in the least dominant. A touch of tar and soot add interest to this bold wine. Long, firm finish with a hint of stony character. A cuvee of grenache, syrah and mourvedre from organically grown grapes. Matured in a mix of foudres and eggs.

A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, the 2022 Ventoux Rouge was still aging during my July 2023 visit, with bottling expected to take place in November. Cherries and blueberries appear on the nose, offering remarkable purity of fruit deftly combined with ripe flavors and freshness. It's medium to full-bodied and defined on the palate by silky tannins, bright, lip-smacking fruit flavors and a juicy finish. Barrel Sample: (88-90)
With bold fruit flavors and accents of sweet spice, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre form the base of the classic Rhône Red Blend, while Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise often come in to play. Somm Secret—Putting their own local spin on the Rhône Red Blend, those from Priorat often include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In California, it is not uncommon to see Petite Sirah make an appearance.
Stretching across the slopes of the Ventoux mountain in the southeastern region of the Rhône River Valley, Cotes du Ventoux excels in the production of spicy and characterful red blends based on Grenache, Syrah, and other indigenous varieties. The region also produces rich and aromatic whites and rosés.
