Winemaker Notes

The 2013 Clos Pegase Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep purple color. This wine possesses heady and complex dark fruit notes of ripe black cherries, plums, and blackberries complemented by scents of violets, graphite, black licorice, wild sage and a touch of sweet cedar. This rich yet elegantly styled Cabernet Sauvignon deftly balances fleshy mineral-tinged fruit, ripe tannins and a rich full mouthfeel with a prominent mid-palate lift and a lengthy refined finish.

A chewy, young wine with lots of medium-grained tannins and cool fruit. Medium to full body and an integrated palate. Flavorful finish. Give it time to show its potential. Drink in 2019.

One of Napa Valley's most consistent, high-quality producers, Clos Pegase has made another solid Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2013 vintage shows up with loads of black fruit and complimentary oak flavors. The wine's smooth finish makes an ideal match with steak au poivre. (Tasted: June 6, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

Much to admire in this rich, savory, layered and well-fruited effort, featuring bold dark berry, anise, mocha and jazzy oak, full-framed, deep and persistent. Drink now. 4,570 cases made.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
