Winemaker Notes

Violets aromas, associated with oregano and juniper berry notes. This wine presents a beautiful mouth with a lot of unctuousness and elegance, on aromas of wild plums, crystallized cherry liqueur, with Madagascar vanilla cream notes. Very beautiful length.

Blend: 85% Grenache, 15 Syrah.

As is common when comparing 2012s and 2011s of the same wine, the 2011 Cotes du Rhone les Quartz is more perfumed and spice-driven, with ripe, up-front notes of black licorice, black cherry, roasted meats and ground herbs all emerging from the glass. A big, rich 2011 that has solid mid-palate depth and sweet tannin, it should be at its best over the coming 4-5 years.

Typically thought of as a baby Chateâuneuf-du-Pape, the term Côtes du Rhône actually doesn’t merely apply to the flatter outskirts of the major southern Rhône appellations, it also includes the fringes of well-respected northern Rhône appellations. White wines can be produced under the appellation name, but very little is actually made.

The region offers some of the best values in France and even some first-rate and age-worthy reds. Red wine varieties include most of the Chateâuneuf-du-Pape varieties like Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, and Counoise, as well as Carignan. White grapes grown include Grenache blanc, Roussanne and Viognier, among others.
