Winemaker Notes

Amazing wine takes time. From the Red Hills Vineyard wehave produced this aromatic, rich, mouth filling wine. Ittook three years to find the best block of Petit Verdot in theRed Hills and two years aging in barrel to let the fruit com-ponents and tannin meld naturally. Aromas of dried plum, juicy cherry, and white pepper, balanced with flavors ofmarionberry, sultanas, herbs de Provence and clove thatlingers for ages. This very dark garnet wine will leave yourglass stained and age in your cellar for years to come.

This wine is rich, opulent and lively. Concentrated with blackberry, blueberry pie and orange zest weave into toasty vanilla spice, cardamom, red berry flavors, mineral and dried herbs to finish. Decant and enjoy with hearty beef stew.

One of the original Bordeaux varieties, Petit Verdot has a bold structure, color and aromas, which allow it to make a significant difference in Bordeaux Blends—even in modest amounts. While it isn’t planted in Bordeaux in great quantities anymore, its virtues are increasingly identified elsewhere. Somm Secret—Producing phenomenal single-varietal wines in hot and dry locations in the New World, Petit Verdot also finds a happy home in parts of Spain as well as in in Portugal’s Alentejo where it gracefully blends with the regions' indigenous varieties.

Recognizing the potential of its volcanic and obsidian heavy soils, many respected growers are flocking to the area. Andy Beckstoffer, a leader in escalating the quality and recognition of Napa Valley, has already invested heavily in the area.
