Winemaker Notes
L’Ile Quatre Sous comes from a single vineyard in Parnay with a high proportion of sandy soil which yields a softer “bistrot style” red wine to be enjoyed right away. The name means "Four Penny Island", and refers to an actual sandy bank located in the middle of the Loire River near Parnay (though no vines are actually planted there).

Crafted from vines planted on sandy, gravelly soils with chalky subsoil, the 2022 Les Quatres Sous, matured only in concrete tanks, reveals aromas of cherries, violet and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, juicy and layered, it’s seamless and structured with a delicate core of fruit that segues into an ethereal finish. A great effort.
Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.

Inside the Saumur region, Saumur-Champigny creates some of the Loire’s greatest Cabernet Francs.
