Winemaker Notes

Planted in the 1970s, Cold Creek is one of Washington’s oldest and most acclaimed vineyards. Sun-drenched growing conditions with low rainfall result in small berries with full-bodied flavors. This Cabernet has broad-shouldered structure, concentrated fruit character and deep color. Drinkable now or lay down to age.

Pair this wine alongside hearty pastas or rack of lamb with cracked pepper and rosemary.

Critical Acclaim

JS 92
James Suckling
A rich, flavorful red with blackcurrant and wet-earth character. Full body, lots of fruit and velvety tannins. Flavorful finish. Opulent, but shows tension and form. Drink now.
W&S 91
Wine & Spirits

Rich in style, the wine is all plum fruit enveloped by warm, spicy oak scents of tobacco and maple sap. The flavors are very purple, with a supple, velvety texture—everything you want for a mixed-grill feast.

Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery Video

Chateau Ste. Michelle is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one devoted to whites and another to reds. Their winemaking philosophy is to highlight the style, quality and expression of our Washington state vineyards. We strive to respect the varietal characters and individuality of each location, yet still craft each wine to give you a pleasurable, food friendly experience.

This dedicated approach to winemaking allows the winemaking team led by Katie Nelson to build winemaking programs to the unique specifications of red and white wines. “After nearly 30 years of experience, I’m inspired to be bold and take chances. I have leaned into my knowledge and enjoy challenging convention. I want to create exciting wines for people to enjoy.” says Katie about her winemaking philosophy.

While all of Chateau Ste. Michelle's vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Chateau Ste. Michelle’s award-winning white wines are made in Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle, WA. The winery's expansive, picturesque 105-acre estate hosts more than 300,000 visitors annually for tours, tastings, dinners and outdoor summer concerts.

Washington produces so many exciting wines, and that definitely includes Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. With over 10,000 acres under vine, Cabernet Sauvignon is now the most widely-grown varietal in the state. Terrific examples hail from sub-appellations like Red Mountain, Wahluke Slope, Horse Heaven Hills and Walla Walla Valley. One of the fascinations of these Columbia Valley Cabs is that they so often seem to have one foot in the New World and one in the Old. Representing the former are characteristics like the ripe, forward fruit that results from long sunny days during the growing season (up to two hours longer than in much of California). Old World similarities include an undeniable brightness from acidity, as well as notes of herbs, graphite and a dusty, sometimes gravelly minerality.

Whether you’re looking for a budget bottle for everyday enjoyment, or a stellar, world-class wine with tremendous aging potential, Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wines can deliver the goods! Among the many fine options are bottles from Columbia Crest, Chateau Ste. Michelle, L’ecole #41, Quilceda Creek and Leonetti.
