Winemaker Notes

The wines of Chateau Poujeaux always have a color very strong, very profound. The subtle flavors, soft tannins and silky hope are never aggressive even in their youth. Power, charm, elegance and balance, perfectly characterize these wines. This success is due to the extreme rigor in the selection of tanks and the expertise acquired over three generations.

A fragrant, sunny, fruit-driven Bordeaux, this feels elegant and clean, stripped of all pretense. Nothing obstructs its pleasing richness and buttoned-down style. Accessible as a young wine, this will brighten a formal business dinner at a steakhouse.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.
