Although initially a bit varietal aromatically, with Sauvignon Blanc coming to the fore, as it sits in glass, I appreciate the energy and the subtle opulence coming from the Sémillons, which exude the expected white stone fruit but also with lemon peel and plenty of friendly, Indian tonic freshness on the medium finish. Ageing several months on lees in concrete tanks, with regular lees stirring, with only about five percent ageing in oak barrels. A wine to enjoy on its own or with seared scallops and risotto.

Always terrific, the 2023 Château Marjosse Blanc is no exception and has vibrant crushed citrus, lemon zest, and minty herb notes in its medium-bodied, bright, racy, mineral-driven profile. It's a beautiful white well worth seeking out.

Sometimes light and crisp, other times rich and creamy, Bordeaux White Blends typically consist of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Often, a small amount of Muscadelle or Sauvignon Gris is included for added intrigue. Popularized in Bordeaux, the blend is often mimicked throughout the New World. Somm Secret—Sauternes and Barsac are usually reserved for dessert, but they can be served before, during or after a meal. Try these sweet wines as an aperitif with jamón ibérico, oysters with a spicy mignonette or during dinner alongside hearty Alsatian sausage.
Extending over verdant slopes between the Rivers Dordogne and Garonne, the Entre-Deux-Mers region (“between two seas”) offers great value and a splendid introduction to the dry reds and whites of Bordeaux. Merlot and Cabernet comprise most of the reds; Sauvignon blanc and Semillon are responsible for the whites, all of which are best enjoyed in their youth.
