Winemaker Notes

Intense, beautifully bright deep purple color. The bouquet is very fresh with deep, ripe aromas. The palate is smooth and voluptuous, developing a beautiful smooth, full-bodied texture with black fruit aromas, mocha, dark chocolate, and a hint of menthol. This wine reveals a precise, meticulous, very balanced structure. with refined tannins and a superb finish. It's generous, elegant, distinguished style promises an excellent future.

James Suckling
Impressive nose with leather, dark polished fruit and flowers. Wonderful mouthfeel with soft silky tannins and beautiful texture. Really well put together. Powerful and rich with loads of fruit and ripe tannins. Very ripe.

Decanter
We were very much in the years here where Malartic was flexing its muscles and rising through the ranks of Pessac Léognan. With this wine you get not just potential for future development from this point, but also tons of pleasure if drinking today. Clear depth and concentration on display - you just keep on drilling down and finding more truffle, black pepper and chocolate notes alongside the fruit.
RP 94
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Lead pencil shavings, soy and barbecue smoke as well as red and black currants characterize this brilliant effort, which has an expansive, full-bodied mouthfeel yet a sublime elegance and lightness of being. Dense ruby/purple, gorgeous purity and a long, long finish of close to 50 seconds characterize another brilliant effort from this classified growth in Pessac-Leognan. It should drink nicely for 25-30 years yet is surprisingly accessible even today.

Wine Enthusiast
Continuing its impressive series of wines, this red from Malartic-Lagravière has all the structure and density of the vintage, packed with plum and black currant fruits. The acidity is almost sweet in its richness, blending easily into the dark texture. Age for many years.

WS 93
Wine Spectator
Shows a hefty dose of toast, but remains polished and well-embedded in a core of crushed plum, steeped blackberry and cherry compote flavors. The long finish picks up briary energy, with anise and violet notes checking in. Best from 2016 through 2028.

Since acquiring Château Malartic-Lagravière in 1997, the Bonnie family has continued to work tirelessly, with passion and commitment, to perfect the estate’s wines and carry them to the highest level.

The estate used to belong the family of Comte Hippolyte Maurès de Malartic, was known under the name of Domaine de la Gravière until 1850, when it changed name to take on its current name of Château Malartic-Lagravière. The Bonnies and their team are doing everything to enable this premium terroir to express itself in all its magnificence: intra-plot management of the vineyard, High Environmental Value certification and the whole winemaking process is gravity-fed. They develop complex, balanced, elegant wines, so tailored they can be considered ‘haute-couture’.

Château Malartic-Lagravière is one of the only six classified growths both for its red and white. Its wines are well known all over the world amongst the very best wines in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
