Chateau La Patache 2020
Winemaker Notes
Critical Acclaim
All VintagesSpicy, crushed berry and violet aromas that follow through to a medium body with a wonderful purity of fruit and fine velvety texture. Shows lots of class for this winery.
Barrel Sample: 92-94
Aromas of sweet cherries, licorice, spices and plums preface the 2020 La Patache, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy Pomerol that's supple and seamless in style. It will drink well young. Best after 2023.
A charming, up-front, mouth-filling Pomerol, the 2020 Chateau La Patache comes from a tiny 2.5-hectare vineyard and is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc that was aged 20 months in new barrels. It's a medium-bodied, complex, nuanced Pomerol that shines for its balance and complexity more than power and richness. Strawberries, raspberries, flowers, and sappy, minty herbs notes define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a good spine of acidity. This pretty, nuanced, silky Pomerol will keep for 10-12 years. Best After 2023.

The plots are located on soils of a wide variety and complexity - soil composed of fine gravels with crasse de fer and clay in the subsoil.
La Patache is a locality on the national road 89 (Bordeaux-Lyon), whose name evokes this kind of coaches which went there in ancient times. Indeed, in the nineteenth century, « les pataches » were horse carriages that served as stagecoach in the countryside. The locality La Patache in Pomerol can be found on the first Napoleonic maps.
The original stone buildings were in fact former a post office at the entrance of Libourne. It is in the renovated stables that in 2012 we installed a modern winery and cellars. The old post office building has been refitted into a barrel cellar.
