Winemaker Notes

Beautiful ruby-red color. The nose develops aromas of black fruits (plum, blackcurrant and cherry). Elegant and round in mouth, B de Fondabet expresses structure with mellow tannins. Nice balance.
Blend: 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot

Decanter
Beautifully aromatic, with lovely, lifted floral notes, fresh raspberry and cassis, then to a supple palate dressed with dark chocolate, red pepper and delicious pure fruit. Light on its feet but bursting with flavor!

Chateau Fonbadet, France
Chateau Fonbadet Winery Image
To the north of the small village of Saint-Lambert, the Chateau Fonbadet boasts a choice location, amidst the most reputed estates of the Pauillac Appellation: Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Latour, Chateau Lynch Bages, Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande and Chateau Pichon Baron de Longueville.

Since its creation in the 1800's, the estate has been owned by different families whose names are still notorious in the region today. Since 2000, the winemaking process is carried out by Pascale Peyronie, who took over from his father Pierre.

The 50 acre vineyard of Chateau Fonbadet is planted with the traditional Medoc grape varieties: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and an additional 5% Petit Verdot and Malbec. The wine is aged in 100% new French oak barrels.

Strongly typed Pauillac, round and full-bodied with aromas of Havana tobacco, the wine deserves to be better known as in the great years of 1962, 1982, 1986 and 1990, it equals the best.

In most of France, wines are named by their place of origin and not by the type of grape (with the exception of Alsace). Just like a red Burgundy is by law, always made of Pinot noir, a red Bordeaux is a blended wine composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the laws of the village from which the grapes come, the conditions of the vintage and decisions of the winemaker, the blend can be further supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and in rare cases, Carmenere. So popular and repeated has this mix of grape varieties become worldwide, that the term, Bordeaux Blend, refers to a wine blended in this style, regardless of origin.
