Winemaker Notes

The 2011 vintage has high phenolic concentrations and is very rich in anthocyanin, with abundant, readily extracted tannins from the skins and seeds. The level of alcohol is around 13%. Acidity levels, as in 2010, are high, producing a pleasing freshness on the palate and perfect balance. The wines are very aromatic, with notes of red berries, hints of menthol and licorice, and a quite distinct minerality.

Wine Spectator
Pure, fruit-laden and refined, with lovely blueberry, plum and blackberry notes that glide along, inlaid with licorice snap, fruitcake and hoisin sauce accents. The long finish drips with fruit, while a charcoal spine imparts balance. This estate is on a roll. Best from 2016 through 2026. 1,000 cases made.

James Suckling
A wonderful red for the vintage with plum, berry, chocolate and toasted-oak character. Full body, integrated tannins and a velvety texture. Wow. Try it in 2017.

Wine Enthusiast
This wine shows mint and spice flavors, new wood and soft tannins. Fruity, attractively forward and ripe.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2011 Faugeres is a very strong effort, which is not surprising given the profound quality of Peby Faugeres. This bigger cuvee exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as lots of sweet black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of licorice and incense. Full, rich and layered, this up-front, gorgeous 2011 should drink well for 12+ years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.
