Winemaker Notes

The complex fruity, floral and liquorice hints dominate the nose. Overtones of citrus fruit are also present, particularly pink grapefruit with its delicate aromas. The palate is rich and silky, with a refreshing, magnificent finish. This is a wine of good structure, texture and body. It accompanies Mediterranean cuisine, colorful, inventive, with rare and subtle spices. A rosé for all 4 seasons, aired, refreshing and fruity the first months; then more mineral, complex, long and structured afterwards.

A gastronomic wine. Red mullet, fish roe, saffron, Iberico Bellota ham, anchoïade, roquefort, rocket salad, some refined and delicate delicacies. Asian flavors, raw fish, garlic, some white meats will also accompany the wine harmoniously.

Pibarnon sits on a high hill in Bandol, looking out toward the Mediterranean. Under the strong sun, the place is both warm and breezy—like this wine, which is rich but not heavy, its strawberry jam flavors refreshed by ocean-air scents. Opulent and old-world in feel, this is built for drinking with strongly flavored dishes, like grilled sardines and tapenade.

Whether it’s playful and fun or savory and serious, most rosé today is not your grandmother’s White Zinfandel, though that category remains strong. Pink wine has recently become quite trendy, and this time around it’s commonly quite dry. Since the pigment in red wines comes from keeping fermenting juice in contact with the grape skins for an extended period, it follows that a pink wine can be made using just a brief period of skin contact—usually just a couple of days. The resulting color depends on grape variety and winemaking style, ranging from pale salmon to deep magenta.

Provence’s leader in concentrated and age-worthy red wines, Bandol is home to the dense, deep and earthy Mourvèdre grape. Like Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Bandol produces characterful reds that, while approachable in their youth, are typically designed for the cellar.

Given its coastal, Provencal situation, Bandol also naturally produces an assortment of charming, aromatic rosés made of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault.
