Chateau de la Maltroye Santenay La Comme Rouge Premier Cru 2019
Nice vineyard on the limit with Chassagne Montrachet. Just a particularity. The upper part of his vineyard being slightly higher, and more mineral was replated in white 40 years ago, when this red Santenay la Comme are planted in the lower part where you have more clay. But below, the soil is slices of limestone. Because of the touch of salty ness natural to the wine, the winemaker doesn't extract too much.
Pair this wine with fish, white meat, poultry. Some chefs serve it with foie gras.
In the far southern end of the Côte de Beaune, Santenay forms a little notch that juts into the otherwise straight border with Côte Chalonnaise.
Santenay red wines show the true essence of red Burgundy at good price points and without demanding a lot of cellar time. Enticing aromas of rose-petal, violet, red fruits and licorice lead to sturdiness on the palate.
