Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Brisson leaps from the glass with a mélange of black cherries, blackberry coulis and cedary notes with nuances of bay leaves, tobacco and tilled soil. Full-bodied with a firm, ripe, grainy texture, it has a lovely line of freshness cutting through the densely packed black fruit layers, finishing on a mineral note.

Chateau Brisson, France
This family estate, founded in 1878, has been run by Paul and Lorette Valade for over thirty years. Originally located in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation area on Chateau Brisson and Chateau Le Peyrat, the vineyard expanded to Saint-Emilion in 2007. Two years later, Cédric Valade joined his parents on the property at the end of his studies as agricultural engineer specializing in viticulture / oenology. On the property, everything is done to ensure impeccable quality. All the work is done by the Valade family.

The know-how passed down from generation to generation, added to long hours of work on the vineyard and a relentless rigor applied to each task, allow them to offer you remarkable wines in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux.

Cotes de Castillon Wine

Bordeaux, France

Though the region is larger than many of its Right Bank neighbors, it is one that consistently produces high quality, well-valued red wines. In fact, Cotes de Castillon can almost be considered a geographical eastern extension of St. Emilion, producing similarly-fashioned reds based on Merlot.

Vineyards in the region’s clay, limestone and sandstone soils produce sturdy red wines. On alluvial terraces, in vineyards closer to the Dordogne River, wines tend to be more supple and fruity. In either case, a great Cotes de Castillon red will be bursting with raspberry, plum and blueberry, have an enticing bouquet of dried flowers and a finish that is plush and opulent.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.
